[SOLVED] Screen Resolution changes at startup (ignoring settings)

    Hello

    I installed Kubuntu 8.1 on my P4 3ghz 512Mbram Ati X550 (256mb)

Resolution is automatically set to 1280x1024 but my PC is too slow to stand it, so I managed to set it to 1024x768 and I do that from sistem administration.

the screen res changes, white screeen appears and disappears then everything keeps working even if I loose the notes I wrote on the desktop wich like "go outside my screen".

    When I reboot...everything reverts to 1280x1024...

Thanks for help peeps, I'm a newby so please be patient

[SOLUTION] Solved running the following command:

    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

then reboot and the screen res sticks to 1024x768 as I wanted

Not solved. I tried this, and yes, it does make the screen 1024x768, but doesn't allow you to set the resolution to anything else and have it stick. Now, it just defaults to 1024.

I've filed this as a bug:

For me this bug is back with 9.10 (it was there on 8.x, gone in 9.04)!

I'd love to work @ 1600x1200, but every reboot reverts me back 2 something lower, which screews up all my widgets placement, etc.

Opening System Settings and just clicking on Display puts screen res back to what I wanted, but I still have to place widgets back manually.

      Any ideas?
