Same... I have several wav files that cut out 1/2 way before the end of the sound... However, I did notice that .ogg files are a little better, but still cut out.
This has been an issue since 4.0 came out... I would think they would have fixed this...
Thinking about going back to the previous version of Kubuntu until KDE 4.4 comes out. I remember when version 3 came out; it wasn't stable till .4 - .5 came and crashed all the time :-P.
Login sound stops before it's finished on my system too. Was doing it in HH, and I believe it's related to KDE. I don't have the problem in HH KDE 3.5.10 or GG KDE 3.5.9.
What's happening, I believe, is that some other startup process is interrupting the login sound. Interestingly, the same is not true when logging out. It's a minor annoyance, but really should be fixed.

Maybe i don't have a problem with this particular 'feature' because i changed the log-in to the shorter one... which - at least in Hardy - is /usr/share/sounds/kubuntu-login.ogg
I have the same. Also I find that the log-in sound plays at a volume set by a different speaker control to the PCM control shown in the system tray so I have to open the mixer to adjust my volume. It's rather annoying. Has anyone had that and corrected it? I believe it is because the login sounds are played through a different channel of my sound card than everything else but I haven't been able to change this yet.
Still searching for "System Notifications" under System Settings... I have no such thing under either the General or Advanced tab. I have looked in each control, and I cannot find it anywhere. I may be the dumbest person should it be staring me in the face, but I have been using *buntu for about two years now, and I cannot find it for the life of me.
K Menu > System Settings > Notifications > System Notifications > Event Source > KDE System Notifications.
