Okay sorry it was enable, not activate (means the same thing) mine is in german

So you have effects enabled. What isn't working?

A few effects are still in the process of being finalized (this is beta, RC) and most won't be effective until kde4.2 (this being kde4.1) so you may have to practice some patience.

On kde4-nightly(kde4.2) I have tube, sphere, cube, exploding, burning, etc working fine but don't really use them. All I use is the nice windows navigator with the mouse in the top right corner.(I can't remember what it is called).

I need just Present windows (the one that show all the windows if you go on the top-left corner).


I have nvidia driver 177. Hope it is not for this. I'll try the 173.

I tried also driver 173.12 and the problem is still there. Does anybody know if there is a sort of kwin log?

I think that I am not facing a enable/disable problem. I think it is something more critical (of course reverting to default does not give any result).

At least I compiled the driver with gcc version 4.3 and my kernel was compiled with gcc 4.2

Tonight i will try to recompile the kernel.

Don't know what else should be.

I have the "Present" windows enabled but do not get the desired effect when the mouse is in the top left corner either. A control + F9 does it fine. Maybe the corner thingy isn't cooked yet?

I just went to settings to the right of "Present" and changed from top left to Right and it works here now. Maybe this'll help you also

for me also the keyboard shortcut does not work.

I tried the kde nightly build of neon project and there desktop effects works (but it is too much unstable for me)

I just went to settings to the right of "Present" and changed from top left to Right and it works here now. Maybe this'll help you also

I had same kind of problems when I had 8.04 installed. The solution was to add some lines (which I stumbled upon on the internet and don't remember what they were) to xorg.conf. It seems that nvidia drivers are really bad with kde4. AMD/ati drivers work much better these days, since they have opened up some of their drivers. Its sad that nvidia doesn't do the same, since they used to be miles ahead of ati when it came to drivers.

You might want to try some of the options in the "screen" section. Try them one at a time, so you know which one makes a difference (if any).

I did not find any useful combination.

Now I am running the nightly build of KDE4.2, it has a lot of problems but no incompatibility with nvidia...
