After being away from my house for a couple of weeks I just now updated Intrepid and found my Nvidia driver installation broken afterward. I tried the KMenu>System>Hardware Drivers utility, aka /usr/bin/jockey-kde, which worked last time I tried it, and now it won't start -- I don't even get a crash message. Is it the same for others?

Re: Hardware Drivers utility is broken?
Ahh, thanks Rog!
Well, let's see, there are 3 known methods for installing the Nvidia driver:
1. Nvidia proprietary installer, but for -.27 kernel "Xen kernel detected, aborting ...."
2. EnvyNG, but not yet released for 8.10 ...
3. jockey-kde, but ...

OK, I know when I'm beaten!
The vesa display for 8.10 is actually a very good quality screen on my system. Just doesn't run Compiz or 3D. Guess I'll live with it for awhile. :P

Re: Hardware Drivers utility is broken?
Hi dibld,
Have tried the propriety driver from the Nvforums webisite?http://www.nvnews.net.
I'm using the latest 177.76 beta driver version.I'm personally on Intrepid Alpha 6 with all the latest updates and the latest 2.6.27-4 kernel.
I hope that helps.

Re: Hardware Drivers utility is broken?
Hi Dibl,
I hope it does work out for you.I've never had the "no Xen kernel detected" error ever since I've started testing Intrepid Alpha 1.
The only time I came across that error was before the Nvidia Developers patched the driver to get it to work with the new Xen kernels.
Hence I was a bit perplexed on why you was getting that error.but I hope the new driver will be able to fix your problem.
Regards,

Re: Hardware Drivers utility is broken?
@Steve, YES! The new beta driver 177.76 installs perfectly! Thanks! I don't know if it is related to the 64-bit architecture, but ever since I upgraded the kernel from the 2.6.25 series, I've been seeing the "Xen kernel detected" error from the proprietary installer. Which is why I was so glad that the jockey-kde utility was working earlier this month.
@claydoh, well, maybe "morning" came a little late for me today ... I'm sure there will be an opportunity to try jockey-kde again.
Thanks guys.
