High CPU load with the linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic

With the 2.6.26-5-generic, top tells that plasma is using about 5 %CPU.

With the 2.6.27-1-generic, top tells that plasma is using 60 - 80 %CPU.

Anyone else ?

Hi Rog131,
I'm using Intrepid Ibex Alpha 4 with the latest 2.6.27 kernel with the latest (patched) 177.68 Nvidia drivers.

I've just fired up System monitor,and my CPU is operating wildly from 80% to 5%,but at the time of writing,it's settled to around 50% at the moment.

It's using 340Mb of 1.5Gb of my memory,and very little of my swap.

May I ask if there are any workarounds for this?

That's odd -- I'm already running 2.6.26-5-generic:

and it's running very nicely (or so I thought). Anyone have a clue what all this means?

Yes, my suspicion is confirmed. Problem fixed as follows:

sudo apt-get remove grub-gfxboot

sudo apt-get install grub

This installed the new grub version 0.97-29ubuntu35. During installation, it automatically configured the menu.lst. Now I am booting

It looks like kwin may be the culprit. I'm running compiz, so that would explain why there's no problem here.

Hmm - after todays upgrades (xserver-xorg-core et al.) also 2.6.26-5-generic
is giving high CPU loads.

Plasma Network Graph is distorted. Pic: Problem.png (network graph

Workaround that is working here is to "Remove this Plasma Network Graph"
and add it again to the panel. This is also working with the 2.6.27-1-generic.

Workaroud #2. Everything is normal when Plasma Network Graph is not
in the panel. Pic: No-problem2.png

@Beep, you gotta be running 8.10, then you have to

sudo apt-get update

and

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

The new kernel was only released two days ago, and Rog says there is already a -2 in the repos, so I guess we'll find out tomorrow what it takes to install a video driver on THAT one. :P

Hi everyone,
I'm writing to quite happily report that I'm using the latest 2.6.27-2 kernel with the latest nvidia-177.70 driver
The only minor hiccup was when I re-installed the driver to work with the latest kernel and re-booted,after the login screen my desktop was black with only one application showing .So I just hit Alt-Ctrl+F1 to get to tty1.After logging in that way,I just issued the command:

sudo init 6

and thankfully,all is well agian.

P.S to back to on topic again,I've just launched htop,and let run for a few minutes.My A.M.D Athlon XP 3000+ is running between 4-7%

OK, I'm jealous! And just where did you get your paws onto that Beta driver? I just scoured Nvidia's driver site and I can't find him.
