    Wicd: No wireless networks found

    Apologies in advance if this question's already been asked. I've recently installed 8.10 and my wireless can't seem to detect any wireless networks. I have an asus laptop with an Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100, which I understand should be supported. The outputs of lspci, lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig and cat /etc/network/interfaces all seem normal, but under both knetwork manager and wicd no wireless networks are detected. Even using sudo iwlist wlan0 scan gives "wlan0 No scan results"

    My wired ethernet works fine. Anyone got a solution? I'm hoping it's something simple like not using the right Wicd suplicant driver.

    I guess you describe situation BEFORE wicd installation since wicd deinstalls knetwork manager so you should not have both at the same time.

    Anyway, I have also switched from knetwork to wicd (version 1.5.8. - btw make sure you have also the latest stable version). I have a different hw but at one point I have experienced the same symptoms as you mention. In my case the problem (most likely) was caused by the fact that my laptop was running on low battery and somewhere I read that below a certain battery level the system disables wireless interfaces. After I plugged in (I remember I also rebooted my router) my wicd got back.

    If this is not your case you may have a look at wicd specific discussion forum http://wicd.net/punbb/viewforum.php?id=2. Once you get this solved please let us know what has worked for you.

      As a matter of fact my laptop froze this morning and I had to make a hard restart after which there was no wireless connection in wicd. I tried restarts of both router and laptop with no luck. Finally I went with my laptop really close to my router - about half a meter and then it finally found the connection. After that I could go back to my usual place where I get 65% signal quality (which is not bad I guess).

        The trick with coming close to my router did not work this morning after another hard restart due to frozen system (caused by krusader). However, ath0 restart has brought back my wireless connection to wicd :

          Well, after couple of days of having no problems, there is no wifi connection again on my compaq nc6000 laptop without an apparent reason. Nothing of the above steps works this time. On my another PC with the same Kubuntu version but of course with a different hardware, my wireless has been and still is working fine.

          I have spent hours googling for some kind of solution with no luck. I am not aware of any comprehensive procedure how to get this running smoothly and consistently. I can understand that in a new release some feature here and there may have still issues, but INTERNET, in this case via WIRELESS, just MUST WORK. Otherwise, and I hate to write this, there is hardly another option but to use "other system" until this gets solved. Any further ideas how to solve the original issue posted in this thread ?

            Same issue I can't coonect with Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g. It shows my device, but I can't connect to any networks.
