    Re: using kwin on kde4.2

The description of the package says:
This package contains KWin, the KDE 4 window manager, featuring hardware-accelerated compositing effects.
This package is part of the KDE 4 base workspace module.
This is a dummy package to depend on the new kde-window-manager, it can be safely removed.
So as you are running KDE I assume you have kde-window-manager already in place...

Are you talking about the Legacy KDE 3.x Kwin? Or the KDE 4.x Kwin?

What are you wanting to do?

Probably I was trting to use legacy. I wanted to install dekorator, but it says it need kwin, it sounded weired to me because I assumed KDE 4.2 already has it, but I thought maybe I was wrong.

Dekorator does require the legacy KWin.

Most of the effects in KDE are through Kwin, so you will loose the KDE4 effects, but you will have the KDE 3 effects.

You should be able to install KDE 3.5.x on Kubuntu 8.10. I haven't tried it though. Perhaps by adding the 8.04 repository?
