Desktop Wallpapers/Media Players

Hey guys, ive just got a few hopefully quick questions.

Ive got the desktop cube enabled, and it works fine, but i'd like to setup different wallpapers for each desktop/workspace. I looked around on the net but didnt find anything helpful, can anyone help?

Also, when i have desktop effects enabled VLC begins to act glitchy, is there a fix aside from disabling effects or a different media player that plays many formats and has a clean interface like vlc?

VLC problems

Have you tried to change the video output from OpenGL to XVideo ? Or other outputs ?
VLC: Pressing Ctrl - P > Video (General Video Settings).
