    Kubuntu 8.10 and Fake Raid...

    Hi All,
Does anyone know if installation (and boot) on Fake Raid will be supported in 8.10?

I have tried it on an old PC with a Highpoint Raid controller, the installer finds, partitions, formats and installs OK, but when it comes to installing Grub or Lilo the array breaks (RAID 0 or 1).

If by Fake Raid you mean Software Raid, then yes it will work fine - you just have to install from the alternate install CD. Also, you can't boot from Software raid, so you'll need to keep a small (150MB) ext2 partition on one of your two drives and mount it as /boot.

Fake raid isn't the same as software raid: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fa...is fakeRAID%3F

And to answer the question, yes installation and boot on Fake Raid is supported. At least using the net installer and probably alternative too. Not sure about the live cd.
The problem before was that the right packages wasn't installed from the beginning but this seem to have been solved. The other problem was that the live installer couldn't cope with fake raid partitions (And it might still be this way) So if your raid chipset is supported alternative should work fine.
