    Canon Canoscan FB630 Ui (solved)

My scanner worked perfectly with TWAIN/XP, but since switching to Kubuntu 8.10 a week ago, I get horrible scans with Xsane.. Much too red and very dark... Is there someone that worked out the best settings for this scanner, the Canon Canoscan FB630 Ui?

Support for Canon hardware is patchy or, more correctly I think, Canon support for Linux is zero.

    Some info is here:

Hmmmm... In that thread, people have problems to get the scanner working alltogether, but that is not my problem: it scans fine. The output just is not what it should be, dark and far too red...

I'm not sure about the config options that come with xsane. However Skanlite (a sane frontend for kde4) might have the functions you seek.

          Take a look here:

Thanks for the link to Skanlite. The options mentioned seem to be more applicable to my problem with the Canon scanner, so I will definitely give Skanlite a try!

Your tip proved to be very valuable!!

I set the analog range to 18 and the gamma correction to 1.8, and I got a very acceptable scan!

              Thanks again!!

                Glad it worked.

Would you be so kind as to mark the title of the thread "solved" as it might just help someone else?

                Thanks
