[SOLVED] problem with my speakers (msi gx720)

    Hi,

I have install kubuntu 8.10 in a notebook msigx720, my problem is that if I connect the headphone, the speakers still works instead of been in silence. I have try the mixer but doesnt work...

I just want the speakers in silence if I plug in the headphone.

Thanks.. (sorry about my bad english)

          thanks Zorael, my mistake

since my laptop isn't in the list (msi gx720) I try all the options and my best achievement is to control the volume of the speakers and headphone independently.

The normal behavior of plugin the headphone and automatically silence the speakers didn't work..

But my problems remain.. I can reduce the volumen of the speakers to zero, and set the headphone volume to the maximum but with this maximum level I cann't can hear well, only if I increase the speakers volumen but again it is too noisy in the library...

I use my laptop everyday on the library... any ideas??

          thanks...

            Re: problem with my speakers

Not sure, the only other thing I can recommend off the top of my head is to check your mixer (alsamixer or kmix) for *options*. On some models there may be a checkbox named Jack Sensitivity or something like that, and if it isn't checked it won't react to when you connect your headphones. Again, this differs between models (model= entries) so you'd have to check each.

Else, you could try compiling a newer version of ALSA, for which there should be a howto on ubuntuforums.org. Alternatively give OSSv4 a go.

Re: problem with my speakers (msi gx720)

well, the problems with the device is well know and is there a way of fix the problem:

basically adding the line: options snd-hda-intel model=targa-2ch-dig

                into: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

you need to unckeck the "Headphone" control of Kmix and make sure that PCM volume is high

this thread has more information about it:

That's sort of a blanket assertion considering it could be any of those models.

                    blanket assertion?

that correspond to the hardware of my laptop

and as I say is a well know problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/253422
