My first experience with the new KDE and Intrepid Ibex Alpha:

Download
Install
Run
Oh...Desktop resolution and display settings are not correct (usual and expect for new installs)
Change settings
Notice the Proprietary driver icon in tray and sluggish display behavior, think to self "Ah, running on default drivers. best update".
Click Icon and choose newest nvidia drivers.
Wait for install and reboot.
....
Failed to load X.

Screwed within 5 mins of installing (from the point of view of your average user).

Its not good. Because it otherwise soils a very nice and professional looking release. I do understand that its an AB build, and these things are expected. Just sharing my first impressions so far. And ill also post any solutions i find (if they are not already here).

Must confess to having problems myself, I downloaded the new driver from Nvidia, made it executable, logged into terminal & went to install be failed with message not installable on 64 bit o/s (or something to those words) That is what I call a DFU problem After downloading the correct version & installing it has been really stable. I did have to remove the the *buntu one from Synaptic (have I told you guys how much I hate Synaptic & I want my V2 of Adept back) as it was trying to overwrite the new version & failing! But now it is really good! I still have the silly problem with the grub/splash problem & have to remove the quiet splash from the kernel entry so I can boot but other than that it's all good

I'm not sure that it is entirely an Nvidia problem, i have problems with ATI drivers, my post here: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...9199#msg149199 explains it.

I think that it may be a KDE problem, as i explained in that post - i have no problems booting into the Gnome desktop, i would be interested to know if anyone suffering problems with Nvidia woes has the Gnome desktop installed, and if they have, does it boot properly?
