    problem installing...

    hi,
i have a problem installing atanks-3.2-1, it is the new version that you can't get with the package manager/installer, thats why i went on their website and downloaded the .rpm version. when i click on it it opens the installer, but after a while it says: Loading cache...
error: Unable to create channel for file: /home/danny/Desktop/atanks-3.2-1.i386.rpm
    am i doing something wrong?
    please help,
    danny

    Yep.

*buntu is a Debian Linux, and requires applications packaged for Debian. ".rpm" means "Redhat Package Manager" -- the "other" Linux branch.

It feels a little like giving a loaded gun to a kid .... but there is a package in the repos named "alien" that will convert a .rpm package to a .deb package, which will probably let you install it. However, alien will not search for nor resolve dependencies. You're really skating on some fairly thin ice, installing downloaded stuff without knowing for sure what it needs. :P
