I have no sound after a fresh install from cd of Kbuntu 8.04 keeping on my Dell 1420N laptop.
Every partition except /home was formatted in the install.
Uname -r reports 2.6.24-19-generic. The sound was flawless on Kubuntu Gutsy.
I've scoured both the Ubuntu and Kbuntu and found several threads but none seem to apply to my situation.
Two threads found were "Ubuntu 8.04/Issues/No Sound After Distribution Or Kernel Upgrade" which talks about fiddling with a modem! driver and
[ubuntu] Dell inspiron 1525 (Hardy Heron):- no sound!
I understand how to correctly setup a sound mixer.
It's bad enough not hearing sound on web sites but I'm stuck in Costa Rica without Skype.
I've been around Kubuntu since Dapper and Slackware for 5 years before that but I'm stumped.
Can anyone help me? Perhaps a different kernel?
