    Fatal error occurred in Dolphin

    hello all,
I did a full upgrade of my Kubuntu last week (kde4.1) and now Dolphin, which was working ok before, is crashing at random it seems. It gives me a signal 6 (SIGABRT) error. Below is the backtrace from the error message box.

    Application: Dolphin (dolphin), signal SIGABRT

Sometimes Dolphin will crash when I'm trying to move or copy a file, sometimes when it's just sitting there doing nothing or when I am exploring folders. Any help as to why this is happening would be great.

Re: Fatal error occurred in Dolphin

Dolphin in KDE 4.1 Beta should not crash randomly, AFAIK. It should crash when you right-click in the white space, such as you would do to execute a "paste" or a "new>folder" operation.

Well, OK, it maybe should not crash like that, but it does on my installation too, which is fully updated. KDE 4.1 is Beta and it's a little rough around the edges -- breakage is to be expected.

I agree that reinstalling Dolphin as per nowshining's post might fix the random crash. If you can stop the strigi daemon from running, that might help too - open System Settings>Advanced>Services (if I'm remembering the menus correctly) and find the screen where you can change which ones start automatically on bootup.

BTW Konqueror does the same "crash on right-click functions" as Dolphin, for me. But if you remember to use the Edit menu instead of the right mouse button, they both work as expected.

and Dolphin could crash when you:

right click on a corrupted MPEG file. That is Bug 164296: Dolphin crash right clicking on a corrupted MPEG file. Here Dolphin is crashing when i move cursor over an Avi file > Re: KDE 4.1 - Now: Dolphin crashing.

Re: Fatal error occurred in Dolphin

problem solved... I guess. I just wiped the drive and reinstalled using the kde4 remix. Dolphin works now, or at least I haven't gotten it to crash yet so I'm happy. Synaptic package manager now works again as well so that takes care of both my major concerns Thanks all for your input.
