    (WW) AIGLX: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x72 [NOT SOLVED]

    I've just installed hardy heron kde4 remix on my box, everything just worked But after I installed some games (lincity and warzone2100) and tried them out it didn't work no more...

    when I start up Warzone, it works fine, I start a new game and can play for a minute or two and then everything freezes, nothing works other than rebooting the box.

    My box:
    AMD XP 1800+ (32 bit, single core @ 1.6GHz I think)
    512MB RAM
    256MB ATI Radeon 9600

    I've installed the restricted drivers, first by just checking the "use restricted drivers) in KDE, and then I tried to do it from EnvyNG with same result Everything worked on Gutsy (I dual boot with Gutsy, but I really like KDE 4 so I want to get this to work)

    the (I think) relevant info from xorg.0.log:
    [code=xorg.0.log]
    (II) fglrx(0): driver needs X.org 7.1.x.y with x.y >= 0.0

    OpenGL renderer string: ATI RADEON 9600 Series

    Anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work? any other info needed?

    no one able to point me in the right direction? I've searched far and wide for a fix to this problem

    Maybe I should go back to Gutsy for now

      Hardy works well with ATI. KDE still (in my opinion) sucks as it has proven unstable compared to GNOME.

      Anyway ....

      In a terminal:
      Code:
      cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep AIGLX
      At the end of the list you should see:
      Code:
      (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so
      The warnings are just that, warnings! Once the driver is loaded they cease.

      Before playing your game I'd suggest switching from compiz to metacity.

      The relevant bit of my xorg.conf:
      Code:
      Section "Device"
      	Identifier	"Configured Video Device"
      	Driver		"fglrx"
      EndSection
      Might I also suggest more RAM?
