Does anyone know if the next release of Kubuntu (8.04) will ship with KDE 4.0 by default?

no it will not. but you can always install it of course since its available in the repo. supposedly, there will also be an "alternative" installation disc with kde4 as default instead of 3.5.x.

Is it too far in advance to fathom a guess that 8.10 might come with KDE 4.0 by default?

Kubuntu 8.04 will not have KDE 4.0 by default. Alternative CD's and/or packages for KDE 4.0 will be made available.

Kubuntu 8.10 will come with KDE 4.0, or 4.1, or whatever current stable version of KDE 4 is available at that time.

No, AFAIK Ku8.10 will never come with KDE 4.0.

Ku8.10 is planned to come with KDE 4.1, or KDE 4.1.1 if available. ——if KDE 4.1.x is not available at the time to release Ku8.10, it is likely that Ku8.10 will continue using KDE3.x.

As per the latest Kubuntu meeting, we are considering making 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) fully KDE 4. We will take whatever KDE 4 version is released at that time, most likely 4.1.2 or 4.1.3.

That will most likely be the outcome. But since it hasn't been written in black and white (or whatever color scheme you are using), I didn't want to give it an official "air". But yeah, we are very most likely going to ship with 4.1. We just have to work out some of the dirty details like migrating user configurations and others.
