Upgrade from 32bit to 64bit without reinstallng?

My beautiful neighbor has a HH 32bit kubuntu installed on a 64bit amd asus machine.

Now I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade from a HH 32bit to a HH 64bit system without reinstalling?

    Has anyone done this?

No, that's not gonna work, Fintan.

The 64-bit architecture isn't really an "upgrade" from 32-bit, it is a "different-grade".

I'm afraid he is stuck re-installing the entire OS and all his packages, if he wants to run the 64-bit OS. Sorry.
