Home Network setup guide?

I have an existing windows workgroup sharing files and resources (printers, internet, etc.). I have tried integrating Kubuntu nodes via Samba in the past with limited success. Now I want to make this configuration permanent so I can share Windows and Linux printers and files across the home network. All will now access the common internet connection, but neither knows the other exists. Where do I start? Is there an easy to follow Linux networking guide or link I can access?
