    [SOLVED] Build Esstential Error for Madwifi

    Hello Newbie here, I've spent the last week when I first installed kubuntu trying to get wifi working. I've tried to install Madwifi and then the ndiswrapper. Now I'm going back to Madwifi. I'm using this guide

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...AR242x+madwifi

    The wifi card is: AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter
    Laptop is: Toshiba Satellite A205-S5825

    After I run the first step (sudo apt-get install build-essential) I get this message;

    Code:
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
    E: Couldn't find package build-essentialDoes this mean it's failed hence why I couldn't install it first time around.
    I then tried sudo apt-get install and then retried and still got the same result.

    Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

      Re: Build Esstential Error for Madwifi

      Code:
      sudo apt-get install build-essential
      But, do you know about the ath5k driver? On my Asus Eee PC it works better than madwifi.

        I have read something about that, but I also read it was still in dev and so maybe prone to issues. I thought I would just go with the tried and tested.

          It's OK to build the madwifi if you want.

          Here's the ath5k info:
