    /etc/hosts ignored in X

    Hello everyone,

    I'm about to have a nervous breakdown! When I add anything to the hosts file it applies to the command prompt only, so if I open a konsole and ping the target host the IP in the hosts file is gladly accepted. But inside firefox and konqueror it is totally ignored.

    I tried clearing all cache, found articles telling me how to disable firefox DNS caching, I have no proxies whatsoever. But the hosts file is as if it didn't exist. At least for konqueror and firefox it doesn't. This is what my hosts file looks like

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    127.0.1.1 mist
    222.222.222.222 gcf.org.sa

    # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
    ::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
    fe00::0 ip6-localnet
    ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
    ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
    ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
    ff02::3 ip6-allhosts

    The /etc/nsswitch.conf files has this for the hosts:

    hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4

    Where do I go from here? Appreciate ANY help!
