kubuntu 8.10 grub oh hp compaq 6735b fatal error-help needed

how can i install kubuntu 8.10 alongside windows xp on hp compaq 6735b
when installation finishes i get same error every time: failed to run grub installation on hdda0
can someone help me?

I have no experience of dual booting with windows but this guide is generally considered to be top class. http://www.apcmag.com/dualboot
