How long is Hardy Heron 8.04.1 going to be around for please, before it is replaced by a newer version?

It looks like it depends on whether one is running a desktop or a server; it seems support for the desktop version of 8.04 ends in early-to-mid 2011, and support for the server version ends in early-to-mid 2013.

The next LTS release will apparently be 10.04 (to be released in April 2010).

So the lifetime of the desktop version of Ubuntu LTS (Hardy Heron) is for 3 years, and the server version for 5? Does this apply to all the LTS releases?

That is Canonical's policy. It probably won't change, but corporations will do what corporations do !
