    8.04 --> 8.10 upgrade problem

    On boot up after upgrading to 8.10, I type in my username and password, press enter, and the screen goes black. The mouse pointer is still visible and active. I tried booting in recovery mode, but got the same result.

    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Re: 8.04 --> 8.10 upgrade problem

    I have exactly the same problem so if anyone has a fix it would be much appreciated. At the moment I've installed Centos on a second disk just to stay connected but I don't like it much and all my data etc is on the other drive.

    I have a suspicion it might be to do with the graphics driver as I saw a very brief message during upgrade about my Nvidia card not being supported I think.

      Good news I have my system back thanks to

      http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...2993#msg152993

      If you follow the instructions there I suspect it might sort you out. If you haven't used aptitude previously it does take a bit of getting used to but essentially I had to install dkms and then the nvidia drivers. A reboot then brought my system back.

      It does seem a lot slower than 8.04 though

      Also, you may be better off checking out the Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex board at
      http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?board=93.0
      as there seems to be quite a bit of activity on that about upgrading etc.

      Best of luck!!
