display not recognized during live CD boot

Compaq nx9030 laptop, currently running Hardy with KDE 3.10 quite happily.
Out of interest, I tried to boot Hardy with KDE 4.1 from a freshly downloaded, burnt and verified CD.
As the Kubuntu loading flash screen disappears, the screen goes blank and stays blank.
Loading obviously continues and finishes correctly - I have been able to verify this by connecting an external monitor, works fine. Which, I guess, means the laptop display gets incorrectly configured during boot. Any suggestions?

About all you can do is experiment with the so-called "cheatcodes" until you find the one(s) that work on your hardware. Use the "Common Linux" and "VGA" tables from here:

    http://manual.sidux.com/en/cheatcode...eatcodes-linux

    and here:

    http://manual.sidux.com/en/cheatcodes-vga-en.htm

I'd start with the VESA codes in the VGA tables and see if you can find one that your graphics chip and monitor like.

Thank you, Sir, I'll have a look at that and see where we get to. Any idea what may be causing the problem?
