What to do with old boot files?

I've been running Hardy since Alpha-3 (the 1st time I've tested anything before beta) and now I have heaps of old files (abi, config, initrd.img, System.map & vmlinuz) in my /boot directory, ranging from kernel 2.6.24-10 to present.

Is it safe to remove everything prior to the kernal I am using now (2.6.24-16-generic)?

The proper way is by uninstalling the no longer required kernel versions through adept.

I didn't know adept could do that. I had run all the apt-get remove and clean commands, but they were still there.
Anyway, all gone now... just removed.
