6.06 update to 8.04

What, exactly, is the "usual path"?
Does it mean a series of updates through all the intervening versions?
Is there a tutorial explaining this process?

You should also be able to upgrade straight from 6.06 to 8.04, even though kubuntu 8.04 isn't LTS.

Most of the underlying system is LTS since ubuntu is, so upgrade compatibility should be taken care of.

Given some of the problems that people have told about upgrading one version at a time I am apprensive.
