Weird Vodafone USB Modem Problem on 8.04

    Hi All,

Not new to Linux but new to KDE.

Am running 8.10 on an old Fujitsu Siemens E Series Lifebook and it runs really well considering the low spec of the machine.

I wanted to connect to the internet using the K3520 USB Broadband modem I used in Windows. I have previously used the BetaVine driver under Ubuntu (different versions) and so I was pleased when I saw that I could pick the 2.0 beta application.

It saw the modem as a E660A but, after a little tweaking I got it to connect.

The weird thing is that the connection is very intermittent. (light blue for a minute then dark blue) and the application shows occasional bursts of download data but no upload at all.

I have checked and rechecked all the settings. Disconnected several times and reset the laptop but to no avail. My wife also has the identical stick on a Windows Laptop and her connection is fine so it´s not the network.

Have searched the forum but can´t find an answer...any ideas?

Re: Weird Vodafone USB Modem Problem on 8.04

Hiya dips1188, I am also new to KDE (I want to migrate from ubuntu) but want to learn more first, on a previous real install of Kubuntu 10.04 I got mine to work (Though doesn't seem to work via virtualbox at this point, only on real installs)

This is what I used and worked in Kubuntu 10.04:

    For Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G Modem (Model: K3565 - REV 2 3G) :

    Connect Modem Via USB
Look for Mobile Phone icon near clock (Bottom right)

    Connect Automatically: Tick

    Under “Mobile Broadband” Tab

    Number:*99#
    Username:wap
    Password: wap
    APN: pp.internet
    Type: any

    Under “PPP” tab

    Authentication: Tick
    PAP:Tick
    CHAP:Tick
    MSCHAPv2:Tick
    MSCHAP:Tick
    EAP: Tick

    Compression

    Allow BSD Compression: Tick
    Allow Deflate compression: Tick
    Use TCP header compression: Tick

If prompted by Kwallet select a secure password (make one up) then click “OK”

Hope it helps you out :-)
