Computer locks up... no reason? (just a fun read...)

Got the somewhat frantic call at work today from wife saying the computer keeps locking up and she doesn't know what to do...

After a moment of "what the heck did I do to hardy last night", she suggests that it could maybe be a dead/dying mouse battery... which she all but confirmed by saying the keyboard still worked and later indeed fixed with a fresh battery.

So this is now the second time that a dead mouse battery has brought on aWindows (lock-up) panic attack... when will those feelings go away Can I only mark this as [Solved] when I don't immediately blame the OS

That is funny you should mention a cat... just today, my cat was napping next to me on the desk and must have had a paw on the ctrl key because every time i would try to open a bookmark folder in Firefox it would ask if i wanted to open all ~50 bookmarks as tabs... took me a while to figure that one out as well...

Usually when the problem lies between the seat and the keyboard, it's the user, and not some cat!

My little creature...

He never did hang around by the keyboard until my wife moved in... the desk was the only place I had taught him to stay off of, after losing the battle of the kitchen counter, table, etc... but then she started letting him up there...

Is it possible you are giving too much attention to the mouse and the cat is feeling left out?

I spent a solid week once writing a 3000 line macro in Excel that tracked the membership of a very large non-profit organization's and automatically updated all of their reports. I tested that thing every way there was to test it. Two days after installing it, I got a frantic call that it was "locking up". I drove 60 miles in heavy traffic to discover that someone had accidentally hit the "Scroll Lock" key.
