I have a 64bit amd processor. When I close the lid on my laptop and open it I can't see the desktop at all. I can see the lights on the screen but that's all there is. I have to shut down and reboot to see everything again. How can I fix this?

Re: No Desktop when opening laptop

Did you configure it to hibernate or suspend when the lid switch gets triggered.

Click on you're battery icon next to the clock.
 The "Power Manager" will pop-up.
On the bottom you will find "When laptop lid closes"
Make sure it is on "Do Nothing"

Not trying to belittle you, just trying to rule it out!

Have you tried clicking the mouse on the screen in case it is your screen saver coming on and requiring a mouse click instead of just a movement or key stroke. Sometimes keystrokes don't take me out of my screen saver mode.Compaq Presario c727us, 120GB  HDD, 2GB DDR2, 1.6GHz, fully working sound, wifi, proprietary buttons, and on board mouse with Kubuntu 8.04 and KDE 4.1

Re: No Desktop when opening laptop

I have it solved now. I installed the latest firmware for my Nvidia card, I just remove those and tested everything and it's working as it should. I guess my laptop or Kubuntu don't like the new firmware for my machine.

The card is a GeForce 6100
