Broken Link on your reference. If I could read it, I or (more likely), someone else could figure out what your supposed to do. Can you copy the instructions and post them here?

Re: Tv turner card 9Y878F in Kubuntu, how configure it?

      Thanks for offer your help.

      This is my situation.

I have a TV + FM tuner card ACORP 9Y878F. This link especify wich cards are suported, my card is in the number 137/136 (http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb/file/tip/linux/) (Documentation/video4linux/CARDLIST.bttv) (the link is not broken, but in this forum the addres is cut, just paste the both anterior links).

In several howto's, say if my card is suported, is a one or two step to have this working (like this howto http://venezuelacristalina.mundoforo...age-vp748.html or thisone http://www.wlug.org.nz/TvTunerCards). That means that the modules are in kernel, and a little configuration is needed.

      Well, i did this

      $ lspci

      I get:

Is easy see my card is suported, well, then, i did this, to check if modules are rigth
      sudo rmmod bttv
      sudo rmmod tuner

Sometimes i get this, sometimes not

ERROR: Module tuner does not exist in /proc/modules

then, to go up the both modules, with the specification of my card (136 as i understand) and tuner 4 (because my card have a cable to conect in lineone in my soundcard)

      sudo modprobe bttv card=136 tuner=4

then, to check if all is working, i type

dmesg | grep bttv && dmesg | grep tuner

      and I get:

      [39343.791043] bttv0: tuner absent

As i understand, all is fine. The howto's say that this is all, and only need to add a line in some file to get this configuration everytime at boot.

      I do this

      sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/options

and i add this line: options bttv card=136 tuner=4

Well, now is time to see the TV, i do

      tvtime-scanner
      or
      tvtime-scanner -n ntsc

and always no found station, and tvtime have a bluescreen and say "no signal"

      To xawtv, i do this

      sudo ln -s /dev/vbi0 /dev/vbi

because if not did, i get a error, then
      scantv
and i choose number 1 to NTSC, the number 1 to us-cable (i don't know what is us-cable-hrc), and again, check all channles numbers but not find any station or channel, and xawtv have a bluescreen., somethink like this
      ...
      105 (679.25 MHz): no station
      106 (685.25 MHz): no station
      107 (691.25 MHz): no station
      108 (697.25 MHz): no station
      109 (703.25 MHz): no station
      110 (709.25 MHz): no station
      ...

      if i do
      dmesg | grep bt
      i get
[39733.254370] bttv0: PLL can sleep, using XTAL (28636363).

I try the 137 number in card type too, but is the same. As you can see, i do all steps fine, and i get all as expected, but just the tv softwares not find any channles. I must say, i change to WinXP and check if is possible see TV, and is possible see all channles.

I guess is a minor problem, but i can see it. Is important if you can see the first link and see my card is suported, have 2 numbers: 137-136.

My card have a infrared detector and a remote control. I have Kubuntu 8.04, i have 1 gb in Ram, hdd 130 gb, is a semprom chip, and compiz working.

Here is my card http://www.bttv-gallery.de/ when say -Acorp 9Y878F picture wanted-, but the previos image on Acorp Y878F is the image og the box that i have.

Thanks for read, i try to put everything.
      Thanks

Re: Tv turner card 9Y878F in Kubuntu, how configure it?

well, i had a little success. Now I can see many channels, but not all, 2 or 3 repeated and no sound. the first 62 channes is possible see very good.

        I did this:
        sudo modprobe bttv card=136 tuner=65 radio=1 remote=1 pll=1

With xawtv, tvtime and kdetv is the same, many channles (until 62) and no sound. I checked the kmix on line, and is ok. no sound, I try conectig the pc-speakers direct on tv card, but not work, that means that the sound is not configured correctly.

My card have a cable that go out from tv card sound and go to line in on my sound card on PC. My soundcard is integrated with mother board. I have Nvidia card too.

        When i do:
dmesg | grep bttv && dmesg | grep tuner
nothing happend. must show something, right?

        Any ideas?

          Weel, other good step.

I tried other tuner number compatible and with this: 43, 47, 57, 59, 64 is possible see all channels, on KDETV, XAWTV and TVTIME. But. still no sound yet.

Is your sound problem really related to your TV tuner, or is it a separate problem? Are you getting sound from other applications (e.g. Amarok) through the same sound source (either motherboard or card) that you have attached to the TV card? Can you try to get sound for both Amarok and the TV tuner from the other sound source? Another possibility is a software incompatibility, either at the codec level or in terms of the sound engine.

Re: Tv turner card 9Y878F in Kubuntu, how configure it?

Well, yes. I have XMMS working normally, the sound's systems too, last.fm, youtube, kaffeine, mplayer, etc... all sounds working, but not in the TV programs: xawtv, kdetv and tvtime.

I tried conecting the pc speakers directly to tv card and no sound. My tv card have a cable, from tv card sound out to sound card line in. I check the kmix to enable -line in- and nothing, no sound.

Well, if not sound directly from tv card, have not good configuration, i guess. My card is a Acorp 9Y878F, TV + FM

Now, with the tuners that i use, i can see all channels provide by my cable company, my only problem is the sound.

I was reading and reading, and for this specific card is more information in romanian and russian than english. I bought in Mexico

Well, last night i was reading a howto (right now i can't find it) and i saw that my kernel have the module for bttv chipset, well, but in step to do:

              modprobe -r snd-bt87x; modprobe snd-bt87x load_all=1

(with and without sudo) i get this:

FATAL: Error inserting snd_bt87x (/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-386/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/pci/snd-bt87x.ko): Operation not permitted

I think thi is the better information that i can give.
I use alsa. I don't understand why is not possible turn on that module. I change to OSS and is the same.

              Now I reading this wiki:
              http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index...t878_driver%29

Personally, I find that wiki entry to be effectively incomprehensible. Most of the instructions are so abbreviated that I would expect to need at least 3 or 4 tries to get them right. Can you find the reference to the Howto that included the modprobe instruction that failed. Usually "Operation not permitted" means whoever is trying to use (or write to) a file does not have the permission to do so.

Re: Tv turner card 9Y878F in Kubuntu, how configure it?

Well, first, thank you to follow my problem.

                    This is the wiki
                    http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Snd-bt87x

I don't have Mythtv, but the section about sound, alsa and bttv is the same for many distributions, i guess.

                    Well, i do this.
1.- To see if my Kubuntu already loaded the module, i did this.

                        lsmod | grep 'snd[-_]bt87x'

                    And I get this

                    snd_bt87x              15588  0
                    snd_pcm                75400  4 snd_bt87x,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
                    snd                    54692  16 snd_bt87x,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss, snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,sn d_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device
                    snd_page_alloc        10504  3 snd_bt87x,snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm

That is good, that menas, that the module is in my kernel. Then To be sure if the sound module recognize my tv card, i did this:

                          cat /proc/asound/cards

                    when i must see a line like this: 1 [Bt878  ]: Bt87x - Brooktree Bt878
                    But, i only get this:

                    0 [SI7012        ]: ICH - SiS SI7012
                                          SiS SI7012 with AD1888 at irq 22

Well, to reload the module, i must do this:

                            modprobe -r snd-bt87x; modprobe snd-bt87x load_all=1

But, was not good, i get this:

FATAL: Error removing snd_bt87x (/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-386/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/pci/snd-bt87x.ko): Operation not permitted

Well, when i follow thos other wiki:
                    http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Snd-bt87x_(alsa_bt878_driver)

and, when i add my tv card as new sound card, on k mix i have now 2 sounds card, my default card and a bttv or something like this. But the sound still not work.

Well, i think i'm close to fix this... but not yet  >

Today i found something. This channles, have a very poor quality sound, i must put the volume to high, of course a sound like "sssssss", is noising, and sometimes is possible undertand teh sound of the channel. Is not possible follow a movie or tv serie, or the music, but that menas that tv card work, well, what i must do to have a good quality.

I must say, i connet the speaker directly to tv card, and the sound is the same.

Of course, when i put the master volume to high, and i try to understand something, the systems sounds, like pidgin have a very high volume, is terrorific.

Re: [SOLVED] Tv turner card 9Y878F in Kubuntu, how configure it?

Well, at first days of 2009 year i found how solve the problem, is so easy, but difficult to find in internet, because the information is in russian and bulgarian.

First, my card is Acorp 9Y878F, i found in this blog:

                          http://sergej5.blogspot.com/2008/02/acorp-9y878f.html

The instructions that i need; only add the line i2c_udelay=128 on /etc/modprobe.d/options , the result in that file is:

                          options bttv card=136 tuner=51 radio=1 remote=1 pll=1 video_nr=-1 i2c_udelay=128

I dont know if that number (128) is only for my model card or is a generic number, i dont know something about i2c_udelay. The command video_nr=-1 i saw in a bulgarian blog, I probed and nothing, still i don't know if i remove it change something in my configuration, but say "video" and do nothing that i see.

Of course, most to reboot. The sound work fine, normal. I probe on Tvtime and kdetv. I can see the TV normal, good quality of video and good quality of sound
