    usb problem

Hello there. I am new to kubuntu and I need some help.
I am running windows xp in vmware server under kubuntu 8.04 Hardy and i can't see my usb memory stick.
So, I went to VM->Setting and i added a usb controller but it still doesn't work. I go here VM->Removable devices->USB Devices and there is nothing. Any help please....

    Re: usb problem

does your kubuntu see the usb device?
i mean, does the usb icon pop up on your desktop?
if yes, then you should simply be able to
right-click on it and tell hh to "mount" the device.
it should then pop up in your vm as well.
    if it doesn't, then i don't know...sorry.
unfortunately it's years i don't use vmware anymore.
    gnu/linux is not windoze

      Re: usb problem

I run a Win XP VM in VMware Player. If you have USB enabled in the .vmx file, then it should work. You have to "safely remove" the stick from HH (I use Dolphin for this) before you click the tab in the VM to "Connect" it. Once it's connected to Windows, it is no longer accessible from Linux, until you "Eject" it, and then "Disconnect" it on the VM tab. Sometimes it's necessary to physically remove and reinsert it before Linux will find it, after it has been ejected and disconnected from the VM.

VMWare doesn't support USB 2.0, only 1.1 - if your USB Stick is 2.0 you won't see it.

If that's the case try VirtualBox, it supports USB 2.0
