HP Photosmart C6280 photo card reader

I'm running 8.04 and have the HP C6280 attached by Ethernet to a router that my main system is also wired to. My wife's MiniMac accesses the printer by wireless. We can both print and scan with no issues. However, only she can see the photo cards from our cameras when they are plugged in. I'm running HPLIP 2.8.2 version 11.0. When I try to access the cards through that software I get the following message:

Photocards on your printer are only available by mounting them as drives using USB mass storage. Please refer to your distribution's documentation for setup and usage instructions.

I have tried looking up how to get these cards to mount and I can't find the correct directions. It is awkward to always dig out the cord and plug the camera in so I'd really like to get this reader working. Any ideas? TIA
