after yesterday's updates i discovered i can no longer start the gui, and since i was not greeted by the nvidia logo i assumed it to be some kernel update issue. so i went to reinstall the driver which prompted the following error
so i tampered a bit with linux-restricted-modules-common (removing nvidia-new from the disabled driver list) in hope of a quick fix, then as this did not work, re-added it to the list, rebooted and all went fine.
now i have absolutely no idea as to what happened and why now the system boots normally.
Does anyone has a clue about what happened?
					Code:

Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most
frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or
improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs
from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as
rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from
obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s).
