    Firefox 3.0...

I'm having problems with Firefox 3.0, i installed it via Adept, but if i run it from the Menu, i still get Firefox 2.0.0.16.

If i try to run Firefox 3.0 from a prompt: firefox-3.0 i end up with Gran Paradiso web browser, which according to Adept isn't even installed.
If i run Alt/F2 command: firefox i get the Firefox 2.0.0.16.

What i've now done is downloaded Firefox 3 and installed it to: /home/malcolm/bin (just somewhere handy) and it runs well, although it takes a long time to start up.

If i peek into: /home/malcolm/.mozilla/ there are default, extensions, firefox, firefox-3.0, plugins, and swiftweasel directories.

Could someone please give me some guidance as to running the version installed via Adept? .... which must be lurking somewhere on the system.

That sounds like a pretty good mess!

If it were me, I'd do the following:

    1. Using Adept Manager, remove all Firefox packages.

    2. Open Dolphin or Konqueror, set it to "view hidden files", and delete all .mozilla files in your home folder.

    3. Restart X.

    4. Using Adept Manager, try again to install Firefox 3.

I dunno -- with your downloaded package, you might have put files in /usr/bin that Adept doesn't know about. :P

      Thank you dibl.

I did that, then reinstalled Firefox 3, and only ended up with Gran Pradiso browser, so i had to re-install Firefox 2 again, now things are back to square one.

Thank You for your help, perhaps i'll say bugger it and leave it as it is.

Thank You, Fintan, Very Much Indeed. It worked like a dream.
The usual offer applies - if you're in the area and fancy a gallon of very old, very strong cider, let me know.

The reason i haven't been around much is that i've got the machine running beautifully now , and i've been spending a lot of my time formatting texts and putting them on my web-site.

Hi aged! I too, noticed that you had been 'absent' a while. Glad to know that you hadn't fallen into one of your vats of cider!

I noticed that you website design had changed.

That will make her happy.... it's around 14 years old - and was well fed with sugar for the first 3 years.

There isn't much left, only around 10-12 gallons.
