    access rights to dvd

    xine gives the following error possibility:

    The source can't be read.
    Maybe you don't have enough rights or source contains no data. (Faulty disc or encrypted)

    On this zepto laptop I have the problem - on my other kubuntu computers and laptops I don't. Is this something with udev?

    Re: access rights to dvd

    What tells:
    Code:
    ls -l /dev/dvd*
    The problem could be that media players are looking /dev/dvd. If there are /dev/dvd1 or /dev/dvd2 or something else => "The source can't be read."

    I did have same kind of error with the Hardy: Topic: Multimedia Problem: Maybe you don't have enough rights...(e.g: no disc in drive)

    Earlier: Re: Can't install the DivX Codec . . .
    Ugh, it apparently has "hda" linked to "dvd1", not "dvd"; ...
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

    Why there are dead links ?

      Re: access rights to dvd

      I get this when I type ls -l /dev/dvd*

      lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 2008-06-07 11:37 /dev/dvd -> scd0
      lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 2008-06-07 11:37 /dev/dvdrw -> scd0

      Now I installed the dvd codecs from automatix and now it plays the dvd!
