    ksmserver wouldn't start

    Hi,

Uhm I wanted to login to my Kubuntu box and when KDE would start. It got stuck on "Initializing System services" - the screen goes black and a little box appears saying "Could not start ksswerver. Check your installation".
I did an apt-get remove ksmserver and apt-get install ksmserver but it wouldn't help. It's still coming up with this error, what could this be? How can i solve this? I can't think of anything i've done that would change the starting behaviour of my KDE installation.

    Thanks for help!

    Re: ksmserver wouldn't start

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I installed some updates from the update manager this morning (I don't know what they were...). When I rebooted, KDE wouldn't start.

I tried reinstalling ksmserver, emptied /var/tmp/kdecache-<user> and /tmp/dke, moved $HOME/.kde to $HOME/.kde.bak, but nothing's worked.

Thanks for your help, and if anyone knows how to log in and get some work done in the meantime, I would really appreciate it.

    Abby
