Envy Problem

Hi All,

I'm working on installing compiz-fusion. So I use envy to install the driver for my nvidia card. Once I went through the install of envy now my desktop is running weird. It's "jumpy", if I mouse over a pull down menu it blinks several times before letting me use it. When I boot my splash screen freaks out, showing what looks like lighting bolts on the display. Heck even typing this the courser is blinking and my typing is posting slow. I uninstalled the driver and then re-installed.

So anyone have a link or something I can use to fix it?

What is the model of your nvidia card -- who is the manufacturer?

It's a GeForce FX 5200. That sound right? It is weird, I did a re-install of kubuntu and I followed the same directions I did the first time to install compiz but this time when I got to envy it did this. It's almost like there is something causing a drain on the system making it run slow. At least that is what I would think if it was the "normal" OS that is pre-loaded on systems.

Lots of folks run Kubuntu with FX 5200s with no problems -- something different here.

If you have time to try it (and haven't already done so), it would be interesting to know if the nvidia-glx-new packaged driver works any better than the Envy installed one (it's the same driver, but different installation). To try it, just open Adept Manager and mark the nvidia-glx-new package for installation, and click "Apply".

There's no use fooling with glx and Compiz until you've got a stable driver installation. :P

LOL well that went well. I went and checked the program and found out it was what I installed in the first place. So I uninstalled and not thinking restarted KDE. Then no desktop. So had to change my xconf.org menu from the command line. LOL. So that was fun.
