    After the recent updates
    You updated what ?

I can't open my .avi files
avi is a multimedia container format:

    Testing Kaffeine (xine)

    Start kaffeine in the konsole
    Code:
    kaffeine --verbose
    --verbose Output xine debug messages
    and kaffeine installation check
    Code:
    kaffeine -w
    -w, --wizard Run installation wizard
    Here it tells:
    Kaffeine-Xine...
    Ok.
    KDE...
    Found version: 3.5.8
    Ok.WIN32 Codecs...
    Ok.
    libdvdcss...
    Ok.
    DVD Drive...
    Ok.
    DVB-Device...
No DVB-Devices found. The DVB related functions will be hidden.
    Distribution...
    Ok.
    RESULT: All ok!

      Re: recent problem with kaffeine

Hi I have problems with Kaffeine and subtitles.
I can't play avi files with srt subtitles file related (ex: movie.avi movie.srt)
The message error come from xine engine:
      "I can't play file:/home/blabla/movie.avi#subtitle:/home/blabla/movie.srt"
the problem seems to be from libxine deb package but in ubuntu is a really mess!
      libxine1,libxine1-console, libxine1-bin etc...
I found in other forums that the problem is the same in xine-lib 1.1.9: the solution is to downgrade from 1.1.9 to 1.1.8 version of xine-lib: actually we are at 1.1.10 with gutsy (suppose to be solved?), how can I downgrade all the xinelib package in kubuntu?
I'm using kde 3.5.9 and the problem came out after upgrading the system.
Maybe the problem can be from Kaffeine-xine? i tried Codeine to play videos but I can't see subtitles control, only in dragon player kde4 i can see subs control but they're grey and not selectable.
      Help please

Gutsy comes with xine-lib 1.1.7. Gutsy backports has, at the moment, xine-lib 1.1.10.

=> You could use 1.1.7/1.1.10 from the official repositories.

Upgrading to Kaffeine 0.8.6 also seems to fix the problem. Of course, when in doubt, it's always wiser to downgrade to official.
