    Bluetooth doesn't work

    Hi everyone,
I have got the IBM ThinkPad T40 and am trying to hook up my cell-phone to it. I just followed the story here: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-setu...in-ubuntu.html, but "sudo hcitool scan"
gives me a message "Device is not available: No such device". In dmesg I can see:

    /etc/bluetooth$ dmesg |grep Blue
    [ 26.440000] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.11
[ 26.440000] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized
[ 26.440000] Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized
    [ 26.476000] Bluetooth: L2CAP ver 2.8
    [ 26.476000] Bluetooth: L2CAP socket layer initialized
[ 26.572000] Bluetooth: RFCOMM socket layer initialized
[ 26.572000] Bluetooth: RFCOMM TTY layer initialized
    [ 26.572000] Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.8
[ 786.724000] Bluetooth: HIDP (Human Interface Emulation) ver 1.2

I am surely missing something, but don't understand what exactly. I will very appreciate any help!
    Alex

    Re: Bluetooth doesn't work

In my Kubuntu 7.10, I have a bluetooth icon down by my clock. If you don't have that then something is wrong.

Also, to search using Konsol, I use sudo hidd --search

If you know the mac address, you can use sudo hidd --connect MAC_ADDR

      Re: Bluetooth doesn't work

You are absolutely right, msimoens, there is a problem with my Bluetooth adapter. Whenever I run kbtobexclient, I get this:
      sash@craft:/etc/init.d$ kbtobexclient
kbtobexclient: WARNING: No usable bluetooth device found.

But here is the thing, I can see from dmesg that my bluetooth device started. But when I run "hciconfig hci0 up"
to double check if it is up, if gives me "Can't get device info: No such device" I just don't see a name of the device. Here is my dmesg (I can't post a whole dmesg because of 20000 characters limitations on this forum):

        Yo!

Have you tried "Fn" + "F5" (thinkpad function key setup to activate the bluetooth device)?

          Re: Bluetooth doesn't work

You know, that was so stupid of me. Of course, you perfectly right! I set up XP and Vista on hundreds of ThinkPads and always use IBM wireless utilities instead of those from Windows. Thank you very much!
          Alex.
