I've recently switched from firefox to konqueror for my web browser (konqueror uses a LOT less RAM!), and am finding konqueror won't automatically save and resume my session like firefox does. How to fix this?

Konqueror: Session management?
I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Hardware is Dell Precision 420, 2x 800 MHz PIII, 512 MB RDRAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 128 MB AGP graphics, 18GB SCSI and 500GB IDE HDDs, DVD burner, Hauppage TV card.Tags: None

Re: Konqueror: Session management?
Yeah, its in preferences. Where you have the option to, on startup, open homepage, numerous homepages or resume last session. Its a great feature. Presumably it just uses the exact same trick it uses to resume after a crash.Originally posted by claydohI am not sure it does that. heck I didn't even know FF could do that unless it crashed.

It would seem a bit ridiculous to remove it.Originally posted by SheeEttinI don't think Konqueror can do that.I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Re: Konqueror: Session management?
Indeed... IF Konqueror had that feature from the beginning.Originally posted by cantabIt would seem a bit ridiculous to remove it.
Konqueror doesn't have automatic saving and resuming of sessions, but there is a way to have that same effect, only manually. In Settings -> Save View Profile you can save the session in the current profile you are using (probably "Web Browsing") or you can create your own special profile for it. To restore the session, Settings -> Load View Profile -> the profile you saved.
But what about crashes, you ask? Now that's one thing Konqueror can save automatically (you still have to restore it manually, though). First, enable the feature in Settings -> Configure Extensions -> Tools tab -> check Crashes Monitor. Now anytime Konqueror crashes, you can restore the saved tabs in Tools -> Crashes. It saves multiple "crash sessions".

I am still wowed by being able to bookmark groups of tabs

Re: Konqueror: Session management?
I've had Konqueror 'return to it's last state' every time I reboot my PC. If you don't close Konqueror before quiting KDE and shutting down your system, then the next time you reboot, Konqueror (as well as any other program you had open when you logged out of KDE) will be there, as you left them, when the Desktop loads.Windows no longer obstruct my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Re: Konqueror: Session management?
Now if only they'd make is so that you could isolate certain tabs into seperate sessions so I could open my gmail and gspace at the same time (they use 2 different google accounts, as so I can only be logged into one at a time).Originally posted by claydohwow its been a while since I have changed/looked at my FF prefs, I guessOriginally posted by marshallbananaYeah, its in preferences. Re: Konqueror: Session management?
Snowhog, isnt what you are explaining happening since you have chose to 'Restore previous session' in Kubuntu session management ? I believe that is the option enabled by default.Originally posted by SnowhogI've had Konqueror 'return to it's last state' every time I reboot my PC. Just curious to know whether you are using any advanced session management features.SuB
--------------------------------------------------------------------
There are only two things in life that are mandatory.
Birth and Death.
Everything else is optional.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Konqueror: Session management?
Actually that's not true. The reason why a Konqueror session is saved is because of KDE's Session Management feature. By default, KDE will save the whole session when you logout and restore it when you log back in. The effect of this on KDE apps is that KDE apps will be restored in the same state they were left in when the session was saved. Let the docs speak for themsevles:Originally posted by marshallbananaThat session restore of Konqueror after is restart is because it treats the shutdown process like a crash.
Actually quiting is not treated as a crash and hence Konqueror doesn't restore that session next time it is opened if you've quit it.

So no, it's not Konqueror doing the magic or crashing when you logout (remember, Konqueror doesn't autorecover crashed tabs/URL's, you have to manually select them). It's thanks to KDE's Session Manager.
