Which USB device/port - External modem

    Hi,

I am attempting to connect an Actiontec external modem to 64 bit Gutsy. The modem is capable of connecting with either USB or serial. My Toshiba laptop does not have a serial port so am trying to connect with USB.

When I look at KInfoCenter > USB Devices, I can see a USB Serial Controller under UHCI Host Controller (3). If I remove the modem, this device disappears.

I try to query the modem using KPPP but so far, I only get a response "unable to open modem" even though I have set the Modem Device to things like /dev/ttyUSB0, /dev/ttySLT3, /dev/ttySL3, /dev/USB/tty3, /dev/ttyUSB3, /dev/usb/ttyACM3, /dev/modem0, and many other selections. Can someone suggest how I should set KPPP for this external modem?

BTW, the modem works on the serial and USB ports of a desktop machine running 64 bit 7.04. In that case, I use /dev/ttyUSB0 and it works fine.

    Thanks,

    Ray
