installs to prompt?

I am installing hardy heron with live cd on a laptop core 2 duo . I am using the same live cd that woks fine on a different laptop but when I load it on my newer computer it always goes to the prompt after loading. ubuntu@ubuntu:$ How do I get the desktop to appear once I am at this prompt? thanks in advance!

Hi,

I believe "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start" does it for gnome and "sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start" does it for kde (without the quotes).
