    Upgrade to Hardy failed

I ran the full upgrade, at the very end, when it was installing the new kernel, it gave me an error message, I forgot exactly what, but it sad something about failed to install and then the upgrade app crashed. So I rebooted, but it couldn't start the X and gave me error: no screens found. Then I selected 'recovery mode' in grub menu, I was able to get into X, but the resolution is all messed up and I can't select a normal resolution and the sound is not working. I still have the Kubuntu 7.10 CD, but it gives me buffer I/O on fd0 and sda* and permission errors. I have nvidia graphics card. Is there a way I can get my default configuration from the cd or just recover to original 7.10 back or complete the upgrade to hardy? Thanks!

EDIT: I installed the latest kernel and now I'm able to boot into X
