Hey, i just tried to install gutsy gibbon on my Dell optiplex GX1 PC, which has a 6gb FAT32 HD, an 192 mb of RAM. It is a blank HD, and when i try to install it, it gets to 15%, Checking File System, and the PC freezes. Im not sure wether its the HD, the ram, or the FAT32, but i want to install it on my new PC, and im scared that it will freeze again, rendering my HD useless. What ould the Problem Be?

 Re: Install problem

You have an older computer and with only 192MB RAM Kubuntu is going to work, but it is going to work sloooooooooooooooooooooow... I'd recommend a sleeker distro like Xubuntu. It uses XFCE4 as desktop and the rest is the same as Kubuntu.

Whichever you opt to go for, the alternate CD as suggested by monte48lowes is a must.Once your problem is solved please mark the topic of the first post as SOLVED so others know and can benefit from your experience! / FAQ

 Re: Install problem

 Ditto the above:

 On the download page:
 http://www.kubuntu.com/download.php#latest

choose your region and then the alternat cd download for your system (i386)

Here is a how-to for the alternate cd:
 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/I386

If you want kubuntu I would suggest upgrading your ram to at least 500MB (1GIG is better)
