    7.10 loses keyboard - hangs.

Kubuntu 7.10 [PC (Intel x86) desktop CD] loses keyboard, mouse cursor still moveable but nothing clickable.

This occurs after a time while performing an operation (whether OS is installed or running from live CD) forcing a hard reset. Does not happen if left idle after booting, but will happen after a time while performing an operation after this. Can happen during install if machine has been left idle from live CD boot. Occured while adjusting time, while setting screensaver, while reading logs, while checking partitions, and during install. Occurs with and without updates.

    System:
Asus A7V mobo (BIOS Rev. 1009)
    AMD Thunderbird 1100 MHz
    1gb PC133 RAM (2x512)
    Abit Radeon 9600XT 256MB
    C-Media Audio Controller
Realtek 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet NIC
Fujitsu 6.5MGB HD (IDE UDMA 4)
    48X CDROM (IDE UDMA 2)
RICOH CD R/W, DVD ROM (IDE UDMA 2)
    PS2 mouse and keyboard.

Windows 98SE, Windows XP, SUSE Linux 10.0, have all been installed and run on this system without problems.

Check the CD for defects (an available option on the boot screen). You may even want to try the Alternate CD for installation (it'll run a bit easier on your resources and provide a more direct route).

    Intel Core2 Duo T7500, Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT, 4Gb PC2-5300, 320Gb Hitachi 7k320, Linux ( )

Did that at first use (immediately after burning CD).

I thought about that too, but decided to reject ubuntu again (3rd time in 2 years). Every version of Ubuntu I have tried seems to have hardware issues on all sorts of different hardware. To be honest, Microsoft products are more reliable in this aspect. I will be sticking with openSUSE for my linux flavours.

You might want to read through this post on the Ubuntu Forum - Normal PS/2 keyboard doesn't work [solved] It might point you in a direction you haven't considered?
