ok heres what i did i got vista... pre installed on my computer then i installed linux booted updated ect
downloaded qemu and now i am trying to boot Vista's partition in qemu and seems
qemu -boot c -hda /dev/sda -m 546 dose not work any one able to help me boot vista with out rebooting my system...

yea i allready have that stuff setup i am wanting to run Windows AND Linux At the Same time not reboot to use one then reboot to use other...

heres my setup
Vista Primary os
Linux Secoundary os
i boot linux..
then i run qemu
and then i try telling it to load Harddrive and not a fake one
all it dose is tell me it cant but i know it can for i do so on windows.
i boot windows and then open qemu and run linux... understand? what i said.. for i do know i am horrible at makeing sence of things... i hope i made more sence than last time...

EasyBCD from NeoSmart Technologies is what I'm using to control dual-booting M$ Vista and Linux. It's slick, easy to use and set up. Absolutely no problems with it and Vista.

I see now, yes. Starn, you do express yourself very well. However, I don't know anything about it, though. Some here use VMWare, which does similar. I see what you are asking now, but I don't have a good answer.

If you don't want to dual- / reboot then the only way is via a virtual (vmware, virtualbox, etc.) machine. I don't know if qemu supports vista.
But before we go into the wonderfull world of virtual machines one question. Why do you need vista? Or better what do you need it for? I ask this for two reasons. One: vista is supported by vmware workstation 6.0 for example but at a price and asfaik vmware converter does not support vista yet. Two: XP or win2000 pro is easily employed at no price. JFTHOI I use windows for adobe/macormedia apps and have it humming along sweetly "inside" of my kubuntu and it is a click away Just as fast and more stable than my hardware installation ever was.

my system came preinstalled with vista.. was kinda forced to use her...
and well.. i use vista for window's games... that wont run on linux useing wine or some thing.... like americas army 2.8.2 wont run in wine or any other product like wine.. sooooo i was thinking i got a lot of horsepower[so to speak] and thought i could use virtual os.... and then i would never have to leave linux agen.... for i love her...

Then you're out of luck. Virtual Machines are a great thing (I use VirtualBox), but they are not going to allow you to run Windows games with acceptable performance.

I have to agree. VM's are great for running apps. but not really usable for gaming. Get yourself a WII

even with top of the line pc's?
and allso i am wanting to run a chat program that dosnt run on wine very well it runs but it is horrible... called ventrilo.... and its a good way to accese my doc's.. but yea.... i just wona play around with the VM's only prob is i am haveing issue's with runing from partition... and my linux partition dosnt have the space to put a os on it.... only 10gb partition.. all windows would allow...

Even with the fastest of the fastest. The problem as I understand it is that the VM does not directly control the video hardware (or the audio, for that matter). For example, my system has an Nvidia 7900GS with 256M of video memory -- a pretty nice video card. But, when I check my Win XP VM to see what the video display is, it says "VGA Adapter" -- in other words, there is not a "real" video driver running the display, only a translator to the Linux window that the VM is running in. So, while my database app runs 95% as fast in VMWare Player as it does on a native Win XP installation, the video and audio are stictly "borrowed" from Linux, and can't do anything near what they would do if driven directly by Windows drivers.

i figered out part of my issue with qemu... but it just hanges at booting from hard disk... and dose nothing els... but anyways vmware people say? i tried a demo for it one time for windows.. it wasnt to bad....

To the best of my knowledge Americas Army is available for linux, no need to virtualize windows for that one. Google seems to confirm my beliefs.

IIRC, America's Army has dropped support for Linux.
