found video driver on live CD how do I install 7.1 now?

When trying to install 7.1 after i get the menu to either install, start in graphics mode etc.... if i choose to install i just get a blank screen. So after some research i decided to just start in safe graphics mode. What do you know it loaded up, but definitely with some graphics issues. I go into display, find the right driver for my laptop which has an intel 85x video card, logout, restart server and bam crystal clear... now how do I do a complete install and get this driver? as i stated before when I go to do complete install the screen goes blank. (btw i did the check CD and it checked out fine)
    Thanks,
    Krys

Out of interest, is there a specific reason for wanting 7.10?
I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Hardware is Dell Precision 420, 2x 800 MHz PIII, 512 MB RDRAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 128 MB AGP graphics, 18GB SCSI and 500GB IDE HDDs, DVD burner, Hauppage TV card.
