I have an ATI radeon graphics card, and when I choose the ati driver in the xorg menu, my desktop will not display. Any ideas on why this could be happening?

ATI in the 7000 - 9something?

If so, don't use the Radeon driver, just ATI "generic" one. And have a look in different threads here, it has been discussed lately.

Best thing to do is get the error... Start up a "bad" session, switch to a terminal (e.g. with Ctrl+Alt+F1), and execute "startx". Post the error it comes back with.
