    System settings broken?

Maybe Dumas33 is experiencing the same thing:

    http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3088029.0

But, as I am not sure, I will not hijack his thread.

Whatever I do in System Settings -> General -> Monitor & Display

the resolution stays the same. I can change the Refresh.

At the moment the settings say 1600x1200 @ 75 Hz. If I change to 85 Hz the desktop goes a little to the right, but the resolution is 1280x1024.

I've tried going to a 1280x1024 - and then back to 1200x1600, but no luck; System Settings just dies, and when I look after restart - it says 1600x1200.

There seems to be some problem with the Systems Settings package, as part of the menus are Japanese. A quick search reveals that more Norwegians are experiencing this.

    Re: System settings broken?

    A little update -

Near the top of my xorg.conf file I found this:

    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following command:
    # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

So I did that, built up a new xorg.config, and most seems fine now. The Japanese is gone, the resolution seems ok - only the log-in screen is not what it should be. I guess it is some kind of TV standard? Narrower, black stripes on the sides of the monitor.

    Then I found this

    http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-4457.html

recommended in another thread here. Its just that I can't find this o.log file, and don't really understand the meaning of that thread.

It would be nice to fix it, so any help?

Try going to /var/log/kdm.log (kde) instead of gdm (gnome)
HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
      4 GB Ram
      Kubuntu 18.10

That would be the one without any number at the end?

If so, I can't find any screen section?
